The First Generation Conference is designed specifically for high school juniors and seniors who will be the first in their families to attend college. The conference aims to inspire and empower first-generation students by providing resources, guidance, and support for their educational journey.
This year's theme is "Racecar." The conference will celebrate the drive and determination of first-generation students, likening their journey to navigating the twists and turns of the track to reach the finish line of their college goals.
The conference is targeted for high school juniors and seniors who are first-generation college students. However, all high school students may attend. Educators, counselors, and parents who support first-generation students are also welcome to attend.
A first-generation student is someone who will be the first in their immediate family to attend college. This means that neither of the studentโs parents or guardians has completed a four-year college degree.
No, the conference is free for all attendees! Meals, materials, and access to all sessions are included. Participants are required to provide their own transportation.
The conference will feature a resource fair, breakout sessions, and interactive workshops focused on college preparation, financial aid, and personal development. Students will be able to meet Willy the Wolverine and win prizes.
While all materials will be provided, you might want to bring a notepad and pen to take notes. Comfortable clothing and shoes are also recommended.
Yes, lunch and snacks will be provided at no cost to attendees. There will be a variety of options to accommodate different dietary needs.
Transportation details will be coordinated by participating schools. If you're registering individually, directions and parking information will be provided upon registration. Public transportation options may also be available.
